The BVGD represents the interests of its members at a national and international level. As the umbrella organization of tourist guides in Germany, it is itself a member of two major international tourist guide organizations: the European Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (FEG) and the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA).
This network enhances cooperation and promotes the exchange of knowledge and information between national associations in Europe and the rest of the world. This gives even more weight to the professional representation of members in supra-national tourism-related bodies. In addition, it guarantees a high standard of guided tours and contributes to the public recognition of tourist guiding as a qualified profession.
